Bug Evolution Controls: Sprint, Bite, and Use Skills

What Are the PC Controls?

A missed sprint can turn your growing spider into another bug’s meal. Learning Bug Evolution controls helps you escape larger hunters and make use of your current creature’s abilities. Start with the control prompts in the bottom-right corner before heading into a fight.

Two keyboard inputs to know are:

  • Hold Shift to sprint. Use it to move across the map faster or retreat from an approaching threat.
  • Press Q for Venom Bite when that ability is available on your Black Widow. This attack poisons its target.

Read your current form’s prompts for its other actions. The Black Widow’s Venom Bite binding belongs to that ability; switching creatures gives you a different set of skills to learn.

Practice sprinting near food before chasing another player. Smaller opponents can be fast enough to escape a larger hunter, so size alone won’t win a pursuit.

How to Bite, Eat, and Grow

Biting a bug and consuming its remains are separate parts of the feeding loop. After defeating an ant or another insect, eat the body to gain additional XP rather than immediately moving to the next target.

Bug Evolution — How to Bite, Eat, and Grow

Follow this sequence while learning combat:

  1. Collect the five orbs requested by the opening tutorial.
  2. Use the evolution prompt to progress into your spider form.
  3. Attack an ant and finish the fight.
  4. Feed on its remains before continuing your hunt.

Glowing food orbs also support growth without requiring a fight. Collect them when larger players are nearby instead of committing to an attack that leaves you exposed.

Food objects such as eggs and acorns give you other feeding targets. Keep watching your surroundings while eating; another player can attack while you’re occupied.

Using Pounce, Venom Bite, and Nest Abilities

Your available actions change with your creature and progression. Garden spider gameplay includes a pounce, while the Black Widow has Venom Bite. Other forms have abilities such as Leap Spring or Hiss.

Bug Evolution — Using Pounce, Venom Bite, and Nest Abilities

Check the ability name before using it. A movement skill and a damaging bite serve different purposes, even when both help during combat.

Use pounce to close a gap during a chase. With the Black Widow, activate Venom Bite against a target you’re already engaging so you can follow up with more attacks.

Nesting adds another requirement: Lay Egg needs you near your nest. If you’re preparing to use that ability, return to your nest rather than trying it while roaming elsewhere. Keep track of its location before leaving to hunt.

Some abilities become available later as you gain levels. Recheck your ability slots during growth instead of assuming your starting actions are your complete toolkit.

Flying and Managing Stamina

The housefly can travel through the air, giving it a way to move beyond ground-based pursuers. Selecting it starts you as a larva, however, so grow and evolve before expecting to fly.

Once you reach its flying form, practice ascending, descending, and returning to the ground somewhere away from combat. Use the displayed controls to learn those actions before relying on flight for an escape.

Watch your stamina during aerial travel. A tired housefly can lose its ability to keep flying, leaving you vulnerable when you expected to get away.

Choose movement speed or stamina upgrades when you need more mobility. Those options address different problems: moving faster helps with pursuit and escape, while additional stamina supports demanding movement.

Check Your Skills After Changing Bugs

Open the Bug Tree to choose another creature and inspect its requirements. For example, the housefly requires level 12 and 200 coins.

Changing bugs starts a new growth cycle for that creature. Give yourself room to develop before testing its combat abilities against a larger opponent.

After switching, check three things:

  • Your current growth stage.
  • The actions displayed in the bottom-right corner.
  • The ability names available to your new form.

Learn the new movement options near food, then take the creature into a fight once you can use them deliberately.
