Bug Evolution Hunting Guide: Prey, Builds, and XP Tips

How to Hunt and Grow Faster

Chasing another bug can turn you into someone else’s next meal. This Bug Evolution hunting guide helps you choose manageable prey, collect XP, and keep enough stamina to escape larger players. Start with food and small insects, eat the bodies after a kill, and move into tougher hunting grounds as you grow.

Your opening routine is straightforward:

  1. Collect the five glowing orbs required by the tutorial.
  2. Evolve into a spider and finish the tutorial objectives.
  3. Attack nearby ants, then feed on their bodies.
  4. Mix hunting with food collection instead of chasing every moving target.
  5. Check your surroundings before committing to another fight.

Killing and feeding are separate actions. Finish eating your prey when the area is clear; immediately running toward another target leaves food behind. If a larger player approaches, abandon the meal and move.

Choose Prey You Can Finish Quickly

Ants, caterpillars, and pill bugs give you targets to hunt while you develop your creature. Bigger prey can provide substantial XP, but a long fight also leaves you exposed to other players.

Start with nearby ants and caterpillars. Watch how quickly their health drops and how much damage you take. If a target is taking too long, return to glowing orbs or other food rather than spending your whole hunting session on one stubborn bug.

Pill bugs are another option as you grow. They can be attacked without fighting back, giving you an opportunity to feed without trading damage. Keep watching the surrounding area during the attack: a passive target does not make the location safe.

Use your creature’s abilities during suitable fights. The garden spider has Pounce, while the Black Widow has Venom Bite. Read the displayed controls for your current form before hunting, especially after switching bugs.

Break off a chase when the target keeps pulling away. Small, fast players can waste your stamina even when you have the size advantage. Return to nearby food instead of following them across the map.

Follow a Food and Hunting Route

You do not have to fight constantly to level up. Glowing orbs, sugar cubes, and other food give you alternatives when prey is scarce or public-server hunting becomes dangerous.

Use these level ranges to organize your route:

Level rangeWhere to goWhat to eat or hunt
Below level 20Areas with glowing orbsCollect orbs while completing the tutorial and growing
Levels 20–40Sandy areaFeed on sugar cubes
Levels 40–60Large cave near the middle of the mapHunt the bugs inside

Move between these areas according to your current strength and the players nearby. Reaching a level target is a reason to explore, rather than a reason to ignore danger.

Keep gathering orbs whenever they are convenient. Larger orbs provide more food value, and collecting them avoids the time spent chasing and defeating prey.

Watch for the Night Hunt announcement, which grants double XP until sunrise. Spend that window actively feeding instead of searching for a difficult PvP fight.

Area banners also help you judge where you are going. Whispering Woods displays a Lv 15+ tag. Read the place-name banner carefully, since a quest notification can appear at the same time.

Pick Traits That Support Your Hunting

Choose upgrades around the problem slowing you down.

  • XP gain: Take the XP option when your priority is reaching evolution requirements faster.
  • Bite speed: Prioritize this when you want to work through food and prey more quickly.
  • Movement speed: Add speed when travel and unsuccessful chases are consuming too much time. Long Legs is one movement upgrade.
  • Stamina: Choose stamina when sprinting and escaping are limiting your survival.
  • Bite damage: Add damage when you are building around attacking tougher targets.

For a food-focused leveling run, prioritize bite speed, then movement. If larger players keep interrupting you, take stamina or movement upgrades before adding more offense.

Avoid using your entire stamina supply just to reach a target. Keep something available for the return trip or an unexpected attacker.

Choose Your Next Bug With Its Abilities in Mind

Bug Evolution’s Bug Tree gives you different creatures to unlock and play:

  • There are 30+ insects and spiders to evolve into.
  • Options include flies, moths, grasshoppers, tarantulas, and prehistoric beasts.

The housefly requires level 12 and 200 coins to unlock. Selecting a new bug starts that creature’s growth cycle again, so be ready to collect food before returning to dangerous hunts.

Flight provides a way to travel and escape ground-based attackers, but you need to grow beyond the housefly’s larval stage before using it. Stamina also matters: an exhausted fly can lose its ability to stay airborne. Practice ascending, descending, and landing before relying on flight during combat.

The Black Widow offers poison attacks and Venom Bite. Use those abilities when pursuing an offensive hunting style, and keep investing in movement if targets repeatedly escape your reach.

Before buying another form, inspect its Bug Tree connections. Unlock the branch that leads toward the creature you actually want.

Survive Public-Server Hunts

A public server can hold 15 players, and other hunters can interrupt your fight or pursue you while you are feeding. Look around between bites, especially when you are small.

Team up with friends to hunt together. Use the team interface to coordinate rather than assuming another bug is friendly because it looks like yours.

Leave crowded bonus XP zones alone while you are vulnerable. Extra XP is less useful when a stronger player forces you to stop feeding or kills you.

Terrain matters, too. Large creatures can get caught around grass, logs, and narrow cave passages. When escaping, look for routes your current form can navigate; when pursuing, stop before squeezing into a gap that could trap you.

Death can cost levels, and a revive option can preserve growth. Read the death screen before selecting an option, and keep paid level boosts separate from your normal feeding routine.

Match Hunts to Coin Quests

Open the QUEST panel before choosing your next target. Its QUICK goals let you combine feeding with coin rewards:

  • Bite 14 Ants: +42 coins.
  • Eat 17 Crickets: +56 coins.
  • Eat 19 Beetles: +64 coins.
  • Stay alive for 7 minutes: +57 coins.
  • Reach Level 30: +150 coins.

Read the action word carefully. A biting objective asks for something different from an eating objective, so finish the required action before moving on.

Collect daily and playtime rewards alongside your hunts. Daily rewards provide coins without requiring another chase.

Whispering Woods also hosts the EMPEROR SCORPION boss fight. Watch for the red BOSS FIGHT banner, boss timer, and minimap skull. If your immediate goal is finishing a food quest or protecting your growth, steer your route away from the active fight.
