Bug Evolution Tier List: Best Bugs and Upgrade Picks

Top Power Picks: Dragonfly and Prehistoric Bugs

Picking your next bug means choosing between fighting power, escape tools, and another stretch of leveling. This Bug Evolution tier list puts Dragonfly and prehistoric bugs among the top power picks, with Black Widow standing out for poison-based combat. Choose around the abilities you want to use, because switching forms also means growing through another early stage.

Dragonfly is a leading target farther along the Bug Tree, alongside the powerful prehistoric creatures. The prehistoric options bring a substantial coin grind: one costs 250,000 coins.

Keep that long-term purchase separate from your immediate survival needs. Claim daily rewards and playtime rewards while building toward expensive unlocks, and complete quests for additional coins.

Don't confuse a creature's position on the tree with an automatic win. Flight, movement, and level differences still matter when another player starts hunting you.

Combat Standout: Black Widow

Black Widow is the standout poison choice. Its attacks poison enemies, and its Venom Bite ability gives you another way to apply that pressure. It also earned a stronger combat appraisal than the later spider's early Hiss ability, which slows targets but still requires you to keep attacking.

Black Widow costs 450 coins and appears as Tier 3 in the player list. That makes it a much nearer purchase than the expensive prehistoric option.

Use it to work through targets such as pill bugs while growing into the form. Pick bite damage upgrades when you want to strengthen your attacks, and keep enough mobility to disengage from larger enemies.

Check the next branches before spending, though. Black Widow's branch ends rather than continuing into the later options shown elsewhere on the tree. Choose it for its poison toolkit; follow another branch when your goal is a creature beyond it.

Early Choices: Housefly and Garden Spider

Housefly offers a clear change in playstyle: you can fly. Garden Spider lets you continue developing the starting creature instead of immediately switching.

Housefly: Flight With a Stamina Limit

Housefly becomes available at level 12 with 200 coins. Switching into it starts you as a larva, so grow into the flying form before relying on an aerial escape.

Flight helps you move away from grounded attackers, but exhaustion can leave you unable to take off. Watch your stamina before approaching another player, and leave yourself room to retreat.

Choose stamina and movement upgrades when escaping pursuit is your priority. Flying gives you another route through the map; it doesn't make a larger enemy harmless.

Garden Spider: Keep Growing Before Switching

Garden Spider has Pounce and can continue earning levels and coins after Housefly and Grasshopper become available.

Stay with it when your current farming run is productive. Unlocking another creature doesn't force you to abandon a grown spider immediately.

Use Pounce during attacks, eat defeated bugs, and collect food between fights. Avoid turning every encounter into a chase: a smaller, faster target can pull you away from easier XP.

Progression Choice: Locust

Locust sits below Black Widow in the combat impressions behind these picks. Its Leap Spring ability emphasizes jumping and getting away, while its early nymph stage lacks usable flight.

Its main appeal here is the route onward. Growing Locust to level 28 is required for the Tarantula option shown on that path, with Dragonfly also appearing among the later choices.

Track your intended unlock before investing time in this branch. If you're aiming for Tarantula, work toward that growth requirement instead of expecting Locust's early abilities to replace Black Widow's poison.

Collect glowing orbs and eggs while leveling through the vulnerable stages. During Night Hunt, XP is doubled until sunrise, making that window useful for pushing toward your next requirement.

Choose Upgrades Around Your Bug's Weakness

A strong creature still needs upgrades that address how it plays.

  • For Housefly, prioritize stamina when flight keeps failing during escapes. Preserve enough energy to leave a dangerous fight.
  • For slower spiders, take movement upgrades when targets repeatedly outrun you. More damage won't help if you can't stay in range.
  • For active hunting, consider bite speed and bite damage. Both support the repeated attacks used to bring down food targets.
  • For leveling, take an XP gain trait when offered. One available choice provides a 10% buff.

Read the player list before starting a fight. It displays each player's bug, level, and tier, giving you a quick way to spot a dangerous mismatch before you commit.
