Which Traits Should You Pick?
The Bug Evolution best traits to prioritize are XP gain for leveling, bite speed for farming, and movement speed or stamina for mobility. Choose between them based on what is slowing your run down. Bigger bugs can kill you, so getting away from a predator deserves attention alongside dealing damage.
Start with these priorities:
- Early leveling: Take the XP-gain upgrade when it appears.
- Food farming: Prioritize bite speed, then movement.
- Frequent escapes: Pick movement speed or stamina upgrades.
- Hunting other bugs: Add bite damage and reach, while keeping enough mobility to pursue targets.
With 30+ insects to evolve into on the Bug Tree, adjust your choices to the creature you’re playing. A ground-based spider chasing prey faces different problems than a housefly running out of stamina.

Take XP Gain Early to Speed Up Growth
The early XP-gain upgrade offers a 10% buff. Take it when your immediate goal is gaining levels and reaching your next evolution.

Pair that choice with a steady food route. Collect glowing orbs, eat available food, and consume defeated bugs rather than leaving their bodies behind. You can gain XP from eating them after the fight.
Avoid turning every nearby insect into a battle. If collecting orbs keeps your levels moving without a long fight, keep collecting. The XP bonus supports growth; it doesn’t make a dangerous opponent easier to survive.
Watch for the Night Hunt event, which provides double XP until sunrise. Use that window to focus on feeding instead of spending it chasing a target you can’t catch.
Prioritize Bite Speed for Food Farming
For a farming-focused run, prioritize bite speed, then movement. This gives you a clear direction when your goal is working through food and moving between feeding spots.

Build your route around targets you can finish efficiently:
- Collect glowing orbs while moving through the area.
- Feed on accessible eggs and other food.
- Attack manageable bugs, then eat their bodies.
- Leave dangerous fights when they interrupt your leveling.
Keep bite speed and bite damage separate in your decisions. Damage upgrades support harder hits, while bite speed is the farming priority. Don’t choose damage automatically just because your creature looks ready for combat.
Use quests to give that farming a second purpose. Quick objectives include biting ants and eating crickets or beetles. Track one that matches the food or prey already along your route.
Use Movement and Stamina to Keep Your Run Going
Movement speed helps address slow travel and difficult chases. Stamina deserves attention when sprinting or flying leaves you exhausted.
Choose the upgrade that matches the problem:
- Prey keeps pulling away: Add movement speed.
- You run out of stamina during escapes: Take extra stamina or a sprint-cost reduction when offered.
- Your large spider struggles to catch smaller bugs: Improve movement before committing more picks to damage.
- Your flying bug becomes stranded: Watch your stamina before starting another pursuit.
The housefly can fly, but flight uses stamina. Keep enough available to leave a bad fight rather than spending it all approaching another player.
Terrain matters, too. Large spiders can get stuck around grass, logs, and tight passages. Pick a route with room to move instead of assuming another speed upgrade will solve a blocked path.
Add Damage and Bite Reach When You Start Hunting
Take bite damage when you’re deliberately fighting other bugs. Add bite reach when you want more reach for those attacks. Keep checking whether you can actually stay close enough to use either upgrade.
A slow spider can struggle to catch a smaller target even after investing heavily in damage. If opponents repeatedly escape, choose movement before adding another offensive upgrade.
Use your creature’s abilities alongside its traits. The Black Widow has poison attacks and Venom Bite, giving you something to use beyond ordinary bites. Keep the distinction clear: choosing an offensive trait and using a creature ability are separate decisions.
Before entering a contested feeding area, look at nearby players and your escape route. Team up with friends to hunt together, and leave crowded XP bonus zones alone when you’re too small to handle the bugs gathering there.
