Which Creatures Can You Play in Bug Evolution?
Your tiny starting spider is only the beginning. This Bug Evolution creatures guide explains the forms, unlock requirements, and abilities that matter when choosing your next creature. Choosing carefully matters because switching creatures starts another growth cycle, putting you back in a vulnerable early stage.
Bug Evolution on Roblox includes spiders, flying insects, grasshoppers, and prehistoric beasts. The Bug Tree connects creature unlocks, while eating and leveling develop the creature you are currently playing.
| Creature progression feature | What you get |
|---|---|
| Starting form | Tiny spider |
| Creature selection | 30+ insects, including flies, moths, grasshoppers, tarantulas, and giant prehistoric beasts |
| Evolution menu | Bug Tree |
The roster offers different ways to move and fight. A Housefly can take to the air, a Black Widow can poison targets, and a Locust has a jumping ability. Those differences matter when a larger player interrupts your feeding route.
How to Unlock and Grow New Creatures
Start by collecting the five orbs required by the tutorial, then evolve into your spider form. After that, keep eating food and defeated bugs to earn XP.

There are two decisions to keep separate: growing your current creature and unlocking another creature on the Bug Tree. Reaching an unlock requirement gives you another option; you do not have to abandon a productive run immediately.
For example, the Housefly requires level 12 and 200 coins. Grasshopper also becomes an option at level 12. Open the Bug Tree and track the creature you want so you can follow its requirements while farming.
Before switching:
- Check the creature’s requirements. Account for both the level requirement and coin cost.
- Look at its displayed stats. Compare the options before spending coins.
- Prepare to grow again. Selecting another creature starts you in an early form.
- Learn its controls before fighting. Use the controls displayed on your screen, especially when moving from a ground creature to a flying one.
Claim daily and playtime rewards to help fund unlocks. The daily reward track also includes a Sun Spider reward, so check the upcoming reward before leaving the menu.
Garden Spider: Learn Pounce Before Moving On
The Garden Spider is your starting creature choice, and it gives you room to learn feeding, combat, and escape timing before buying another form.

Its Pounce ability is useful when engaging a target or putting distance between yourself and danger. Pair that movement with manageable food targets rather than immediately chasing other players.
Ants and caterpillars provide early hunting opportunities. After defeating a bug, eat its body to collect additional XP. Eggs and glowing orbs also provide food without requiring a prolonged chase.
Stay with the Garden Spider while your feeding route remains productive. Unlocking Housefly or Grasshopper does not force you to switch, and continuing an established run lets you keep farming without rebuilding a new creature from its starting stage.
Use movement upgrades if targets consistently escape you. Long Legs increases running speed, which directly addresses the problem of having enough damage but being unable to reach anything.
Housefly and Locust: Understand Their Movement
Housefly flight requires more than picking the creature
Housefly gives you access to flight after growing through its early stage. Immediately after selecting it, you begin as a larva rather than a fully developed fly.
Grow into the flying form, then practice ascending, descending, and landing before depending on flight during a chase. Watch your stamina: exhaustion can leave you unable to fly.
Flight creates an escape option against ground creatures, but it does not make you untouchable. Larger flying enemies remain a threat, and landing near a stronger player can undo the advantage of getting airborne.
Before approaching a busy feeding spot, leave enough stamina to get away.
Locust uses a jumping ability
Locust has Leap Spring, giving it a different movement tool from Housefly’s flight. Its early nymph stage does not provide the same aerial freedom as a developed fly.
Use the leap to create space when threatened. Do not choose Locust expecting to hover above ground enemies.
Locust also connects to later choices such as Tarantula and Dragonfly. Open those nodes before committing to a longer run, and follow the growth requirement shown for the creature you want next.
Black Widow, Tarantula, and Later Creature Choices
Black Widow costs 450 coins and brings a clear combat mechanic: poison. Its Venom Bite applies poison to a target, giving you another attack tool beyond ordinary biting.
Use Venom Bite during a manageable fight, then continue attacking while watching nearby threats. Poison does not remove the need to judge the size and strength of your opponent.
Check the Bug Tree connections before buying. Black Widow’s branch ends rather than continuing into the later route discussed above, so choose it for its poison gameplay rather than assuming every purchase advances toward Tarantula or Dragonfly.
Tarantula and Dragonfly are later creature options, while moths and giant prehistoric beasts expand the broader roster. Save toward a specific node instead of spending coins simply because another creature becomes affordable.
Avoid choosing solely by appearance or size. A large spider can struggle to follow smaller targets through cramped spaces, and a ground creature can lose a chase when its opponent takes flight. Check the movement and abilities attached to your intended form.
Choose Traits Around Your Creature’s Problems
Leveling presents trait choices affecting XP gain, stamina, movement, and combat. Pick upgrades that solve the problem slowing down your current run.
- Choose XP gain when feeding safely. An early XP trait offers a 10% boost, helping you reach evolution requirements faster.
- Choose stamina when movement keeps failing. Reserve enough for sprinting or flight rather than exhausting yourself between food targets.
- Choose movement speed when you cannot catch or escape opponents. Long Legs and other movement upgrades address that gap.
- Choose bite speed when food takes too long to consume. Faster biting supports a feeding-focused run.
- Choose damage when manageable targets take too long to defeat. Keep the fight short enough that another player has less time to interrupt.
For Housefly, pay attention to stamina before chasing another combat upgrade. For a ground spider, check whether movement speed is preventing you from using your existing damage effectively.
Feed Efficiently Without Becoming Someone Else’s Meal
Glowing orbs provide a straightforward early growth route. Larger orbs award more than smaller ones, so prioritize them when you can reach them safely.
After defeating prey, finish eating the body. Moving immediately to another fight leaves XP behind.
For a longer feeding route, collect orbs through the early levels, then look for sugar cubes in the sand area around level 20. Around level 40, the central cave offers bugs to hunt. Enter only when you can handle the targets and leave safely; these are farming milestones, not entry requirements.
Watch for Night Hunt, which grants double XP until sunrise. Use that window to collect food and grow toward your next creature requirement.
Public servers also turn feeding spots into hunting grounds. Keep these habits while developing a fresh form:
- Avoid crowded bonus XP zones while small.
- Team up with friends and hunt together.
- Read area banners before advancing; Whispering Woods carries a Lv 15+ tag.
- Keep an escape route that fits your current size.
- Stop chasing when the target’s movement clearly outmatches yours.
A fresh unlock needs time to develop. Feed away from stronger players until its movement and abilities are ready to support the fights you want to take.
