How to Hunt and Eat Your Prey

Kill the bug, then eat its body—walking away leaves valuable XP behind. If you’re looking for Bug Evolution how to hunt tips, start with ants and caterpillars before chasing other players. Surviving between meals gives you time to grow stronger and work toward your next evolution.

The basic hunting loop is straightforward:

  1. Finish the opening tutorial. Collect five orbs and evolve into a spider.
  2. Find a nearby ant. Start with an accessible target rather than chasing a player across the map.
  3. Bite until it dies. Use the controls displayed in the bottom-right corner of your screen.
  4. Eat the body. Feeding after the kill adds XP and helps you continue growing.
  5. Choose your available upgrades. Then look for another manageable meal.

Keep the game’s basic setup in mind when planning a run:

FeatureGame detail
Starting formTiny spider
Evolution selection30+ insects
Maximum server population15 players

That evolution selection includes flies, moths, grasshoppers, tarantulas, and giant prehistoric beasts. Your hunting tools change with your creature, so check its abilities before picking a fight.

Choose Targets You Can Finish

Ants and caterpillars give you somewhere to start practicing the full attack-and-feed loop. Crickets, beetles, and pill bugs offer more targets as you grow.

Bug Evolution — Choose Targets You Can Finish

Watch how quickly your bites reduce a target’s health. If a fight drags on while larger players approach, leave and find food elsewhere. Finishing a nearby meal is more useful than spending your stamina on a chase you cannot close.

Pill bugs are worth trying as you become stronger: you can attack and feed on them without the same pursuit involved in hunting a moving player. Still, watch your surroundings while feeding. A stationary meal can keep you occupied while another hunter approaches.

For player targets, consider three things before attacking:

  • Their level: Avoid opponents far above your current level.
  • Their movement: A smaller bug with flight or a strong jump can escape a larger pursuer.
  • The terrain: Large bodies can get stuck around grass, logs, and narrow cave openings.

Do not judge a fight by appearance alone. A huge spider still needs enough speed to reach its target.

Keep Collecting Food Between Fights

Hunting is only one way to grow. Glowing orbs, eggs, acorns, and sugar cubes also provide food, and larger orbs give more than smaller ones.

Collect nearby food while moving between targets. If bugs take too long to defeat, switch to orbs instead of forcing combat. That keeps your run moving without requiring another fight.

Pick Upgrades That Help You Catch and Finish Prey

Damage matters, but so does reaching the target and having enough stamina to leave afterward. Choose upgrades around the problem that is slowing your current run.

Bug Evolution — Pick Upgrades That Help You Catch and Finish Prey

Increase bite damage or bite speed when kills take too long. Bite damage strengthens your attacks, while bite speed helps you attack more quickly. Both fit a run focused on repeatedly feeding from bugs.

Add movement speed when prey keeps escaping. Longer legs and movement upgrades help with pursuit. Stop chasing if the target consistently stays beyond your reach; another meal may be closer.

Take stamina upgrades when movement is your limiting factor. Sprinting, jumping, and flying place demands on your movement resources. Leave yourself enough stamina to retreat instead of spending everything reaching a target.

Choose XP gain when your priority is evolving. An early XP trait can help you grow faster while gathering food and hunting manageable bugs.

Use creature abilities alongside your bites:

  • Spider pounce: Use it to help close the distance during a pursuit.
  • Black Widow poison: Attack with its poison tools, including Venom Bite, shown on Q.
  • Housefly flight: Use vertical movement to travel and create distance from ground threats.

Check your current ability bar after changing creatures. A newly selected Housefly begins in a young form and needs to grow before reaching its flying stage.

Follow a Feeding Route Before Taking Riskier Hunts

Build levels with accessible food before moving into harder areas. One leveling route uses these milestones:

Level rangeFeeding route
Below level 20Collect glowing orbs
Levels 20–40Eat sugar cubes in the sandy area
Levels 40–60Hunt bugs in the large cave near the middle of the map
Level 60 onwardTry hunting weaker opponents in public servers

Use those milestones as a route to try, rather than a reason to attack everything you encounter. Your creature, upgrades, and nearby players still affect whether a hunt is worth continuing.

Read area banners as you move. Whispering Woods displays Lv 15+, and the map also helps you identify areas with recommended levels. Meeting a recommendation does not remove the danger from stronger players.

Watch for the Night Hunt announcement, which offers double XP until sunrise. Spend that window collecting food and finishing manageable targets instead of chasing an opponent you cannot catch.

Match Hunts to Your Active Quests

Open the QUEST panel before choosing your next target. Quick quests can turn ordinary feeding into progress toward extra coins, while hourly quests give you additional goals to inspect.

Pay attention to the verb in each objective. A quest asking you to bite ants has a different requirement from one asking you to eat crickets.

Examples of hunting-related goals include:

QuestRequirementCoin reward
Bite 14 AntsBite 14 ants+42 coins
Eat 17 CricketsEat 17 crickets+56 coins
Eat 19 BeetlesEat 19 beetles+64 coins

Follow the goals currently displayed in your panel. When a quest finishes, check the replacement before returning to the same prey.

Track an evolution goal in the Bug Tree, too. The Housefly unlock requires level 12 and 200 coins, giving an early run a clear target. Claim daily and playtime rewards to supplement the coins you earn while playing.

Survive Stronger Players and Crowded Hunting Grounds

Check the map before settling into a feeding area. It can show the largest player in the lobby, giving you another reason to watch where you hunt.

Leave crowded bonus-XP zones alone while you are small. Their extra XP is tempting, but stronger players can turn the area into a dangerous feeding ground. Move somewhere quieter if you keep getting interrupted.

Team up with friends or use the team menu to invite players in your server. Coordinate attacks and keep an eye on each other while feeding, but continue watching for threats outside your group.

Keep an escape option ready:

  • Save stamina during routine travel. Avoid arriving at a fight with nothing left for retreat.
  • Check flight before relying on it. A tired Housefly can lose its ability to stay airborne.
  • Watch narrow passages as you grow. A gap you entered earlier can become difficult to navigate with a larger body.
  • Read the combat indicator. The game can block leaving while you are in combat.

If a stronger bug starts pursuing you, stop trying to finish your meal. Create distance while you still have room and stamina to move.
